KIBA ITB

In 2009, the Children’s Book Design and Illustration Course was introduced as part of the Visual and Communication Design program. This course guides students in the creation of children's picture books from scratch. It incorporates theoretical sessions, dummy creations, and discussions with emerging artists and mentors from the literature industry. Each year, diverse themes and media are explored, adding depth and variety to the study portfolio. The course has established collaborations with international organizations such as The Asia Foundation and Room to Read, as well as local publishers. Through these partnerships, the Children’s Book Design and Illustration Course aims to produce high-quality children's books with both local and global impact.

With this intention, the visual identity of KIBA is crafted to represent imagination and knowledge. The concept is based on iconic symbols from ITB, namely the elephant Ganesha and the shape of a book as the main logo for KIBA (baby elephant), adorned with a derivative blue color tone that resonates with a child-friendly palette. The logotype is intentionally designed to feel proper, reflecting the quality of the course, yet it is infused with a playful spirit. This is achieved through the use of a rounded-serif typeface as the primary foundation, incorporating both uppercase and lowercase letters. The visual communication is kept neat, focused on the graphic system derived from the logogram to convey an imaginative and illustrative impression.
